Alimony is a periodic allowance for the support of a current or former spouse. There are three types of alimony recognized under Maryland law: temporary alimony, permanent alimony, and indefinite alimony. The issue of alimony typically arises when there is a disparity in income between a husband and wife seeking a divorce. The goal of alimony is to enable the dependent spouse to become self-supporting.
At Brown, Goldstein & Levy, we work closely with our clients to determine whether alimony is appropriate, and if so, for how long and in what amount.
